Welcome to BlogSpot

If you have completed the "Jo Cool or Joe Fool" assignment, then you are ready to create your own BlogSpot. You will need to create an account with Google in order to do this. Remember the rules about personal information! You can only use your FIRST name for your Blog. You should only be adding myself and your classmates to the list of people who can view your blog. Once you have created your blogsite, please e-mail me the link so that I can add it to my blog.

Discussion #2

Part one of this project is to explore what it means to have a digital life, what power we have over our digital life and what power our digital life has over us.

  1. How much do you live online ie/ how much time do you spend online; what types of things do you do online?
  2. Do you have a personal electronic device (like a cell phone)? How could you do your school work on it?
  3. Do computers give us more human connections or fewer human connections? Why?
  4. If you had to write 3 rules for internet ethics and manners what would they be?
  5. Do you think teachers should encourage or discourage multitasking (doing many different things at the same time, such as listening to your iPod, texting, and working on an assignment)?
  6. What do you think is better for teaching and learning: D2L (closed learning management system) or blogs or other open public social networking tools? Why?
  7. Is there a need for online relationships in learning?
Answer these questions in a post on YOUR blog. Comment on an answer a classmate gave to one of these questions on the CLASSMATE'S Blog.

Calgary Board Ends Statement Response

E-3: Citi

Each student will be a responsible citizen by being an informed and involved member in his or her local, national and global communities.

E-5: Character
Each student will possess the character to do what is right, act morally with wisdom, and balance individual concerns with the rights and needs of others.

1st Post: In your own words, explain what each of these goals means.

2nd Post: Choose either the Citizenship or Character Ends statement that you are going to work towards in school and in your life.  Write about why you chose it. Include a list of activities that you already do that show that you are trying to reach that goal.

3rd Post: Think of 1 activity or project that you could do to reach the Citizenship or Character goal that you have chosen. Write down the steps you would need to take to complete this activity. You can do a keyword search to see what other people have done or to help you get ideas.

Comment on the project that one of your classmates has chosen on their blog by answering these questions:
         1. Will the project/activity help them reach the goal they chose? Why/why not?
         2. What do you like about their project? Why?
         3. What could they add to their project to make it better or more effective?
